Hiccups…

My blog seems to be having some technical hiccups at the moment…  A photoblog that won’t load pictures will not do!

Edit 4th July - Hiccups cured. Before blaming software, computers, ISPs etc etc, make sure you haven’t deleted the images from Flickr by accident…

A Quick Plug

For any readers that like to run marathons, put October 12th in your diary and get training.  The first Borneo International Marathon will be run in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia - a perfect excuse to get over to beautiful Sabah, my stomping ground for 10 years before I returned to the UK.  Take a look at the BIM site and sign up today.  Quite a few of my friends are involved in organising the event, including fellow blogger Shan.  Good luck to all, I wish I could be there (to shoot some images, not too run…!)

MOI2008-06-221511.jpgSome of the guys from Worcester College that came over from for the wedding.  Martin and baby Edith, Piers, Jenny, Vinny and Lizzy with baby George.  Really fantastic to see them all again, been far too long in some cases.  And nobody ever changes!

MOI2008-06-221490.jpgMOI2008-06-200453.jpgA couple more images. The location, Iles Aux Moines, and the local pub, Chez Charlemagne. Very fine place indeed!

MOI2008-06-200387.jpgMOI2008-06-200374.jpgMOI2008-06-190004.jpgThe bride, the groom and their daughter. I’ve been doing some processing with these - dropping the saturation, tweaking colours and adding a vignette mainly. Not 100% sure I will keep them as they are, but its always worth an experiment. I’ll send them over to the newly weds - if they don’t like, I’ll have to do some changes!

_MAT1802.jpgGot back from France Monday night - INCREDIBLE wedding!  Images and info to follow.  But for now, I’ll just say I have never eaten so much cheese, bread and sausage in my life…. Working Tuesday and even did some shooting for an amateur dramatic group last night.  Horrible room and horrible light - but had a few minutes of evening sun slanting through the windows.  The D3 is fantastic in situations with high contrast - the image above, of one of the leading ladies, is pretty much straight out of the camera.  It needs to be seen at full size to appreciate how the camera holds the highlights - very, very impressive.

I am sitting in Gatwick with a D3 body, but no 24-70 and no 70-200. The deal I bought into - ‘Buy now, pay later’ - was just to good to be true and both lenses are now scheduled to arrive at the end of July. Jessops let me down big time…

I dropped the order and headed over to Calumet in Birmingham. They had no stock either but being a pro shop, they were willing to loan me a 28-70 for the trip for free. I’ll pick up the 24-70 when I drop off the loaner. Thank you Calumet! You have a customer for life….

I have been a very unusual photographer the last few weeks - one without any gear! Thats all about to change. Arriving on my doorstep next Tuesday will be a D3, new 24-70/2.8 and a 70-200VR. I leave the next morning for 6 days of wedding fun in France, perfect timing indeed. Finally… It will feel VERY good to have a camera in my hands again.

News and reviews will be coming up as soon as I have got to grips with the camera. In the meantime, have a look at Bjorn Rorslett’s review and take a browse through the sites of Joe McNally and Dave Black on the left - fantastic photographers that show what this camera is capable of.

There has been some fantastic reporting following the recent incident where several divers went missing after a dive in Komodo National Park. When interviewed after being found, one of the divers said that “On the beach a komodo dragon came amongst us yesterday (Friday) afternoon”, describing how the group had to pelt the reptile with rocks to scare it away. In papers like the Mail on Sunday, this has been translated into the divers fighting off ‘man-eating lizards’ for survival.  Sensation sells…
