James Nachtwey, XDR-TB

Take a look at this gallery at xdrtb.org.  The photographer, James Nachtwey, was awarded a TED prize in 2007 and used this to document the spread of extremely drug-resistant TB, particularly amongst HIV/AIDS patients.  Pretty strong images which, in my opinion, sum up what photojournalism is all about.  Photographers take pictures of nouns - places, [...]

Robyn Coffer…

Just 3 days old.  Congratulations to Hannah and Grant!

Magazine cover…

Slightly unusual, but an image of mine taken at Pualu Tiga, south of Kota Kinabalu, was used as the front cover of the latest edition of Biawak, the official peer-reviewed journal of the International Varanid Interest Group!

Equipment, equipment, equipment…

I had an interesting email from a publisher last week, about doing some dive guides.  It’s only an idea at the moment, but it got me thinking about camera housings and strobes.  I bought the D3 on the basis that I wouldn’t be doing any diving in the immediate future - the set-up costs are [...]

Autumn…

… Is coming on fast.  This little hedgehog was rummaging around the garden in broad daylight, probably feeling the urge to build up some reserves for the winter.
I made the decision to upgrade to Lightroom 2 today, mainly because of the new adjustment brushes and LR2’s ability to work offline across multiple drives.  But interestingly, [...]

Off-camera flash…

One of my pet hates is a photograph ruined by the use of harsh, on-camera flash.  As a result, I actually try to avoid using one, to the extent that I won’t get mine out of the bag even when I know a bit of fill will improve the photograph no end. Basically, I don’t [...]

Browsing…

No time for shooting at the moment.  Working on more ideas - including a foodie book! - and sending out emails by the dozen.  It’s incredible the amount of people that simply don’t bother replying to an email, even with a simple no.  I reckon I have sent out about 100-150 emails in the last [...]

Three Generations

Three generations - Brian Oldfield, my father, Joseph Jenkins, the birthday boy and Ed Jenkins, Joseph’s father…

Jo’s Birthday

Jo will be four next week but will be heading away on holiday on the actual day, so this weekend my sister and Ed had a birthday party at a ‘Wacky Warehouse’ - a lot of fun….

Over there!

It was suprisingly cold on Inle first thing in the morning. Not surprisingly really, given how far north it is and that I was there in winter. Still, it caught me unprepared. The only piece of warm clothing I had was a very thin fleece - not quite enough when we were [...]
