Blogging

Unfortunately, not a lot of time for this at the moment. I’m very busy, writing, writing, writing… Writing up something for my father, a pitch for a possible book project, I have a rewrite of a different pitch for a tv series and an article to be done about Myanmar. However, I [...]

Anything for a dollar

I’m working for my Dad at the moment, typing up some reports he’s written for an exploration block in the North Sea. Whilst sitting in the library, tapping away on my keyboard, I came across this incredible sentence:
These basins, together represent a post Hercynian intra-cratonic downwarp generated during a post orogenic E - W [...]

Life on the Mekong

From the border of Thailand, it’s two days down the Mekong to Luang Prabang. All the tourists are herded on to long boats rather than the speedy motor boats, ostensibly for safety reasons. I suspect it has more to do with the fact that the vendors on the long boats make some serious [...]

Testing testing time…

I’ve been playing around with this site a little, setting up a WP plugin called Flickr Manager that allows you to pull off images directly from Flickr into a post and then formats them with a nice lightbox viewer. It seems to be working well apart from a few problems in Safari, which I [...]

Flickr loves you, but we demand donuts…

flickr loves you, originally uploaded by ososment.
And I promised myself I would stick to all things professional and photographic!
Its sort of related, honest - tomorrow, 16th April, is Donut Day. I don’t know if this is an ‘official’ global celebration of all things doughy and deep-fried, but there is a campaign on the [...]

I’m Hungry

_JAS6141.jpg, originally uploaded by MattKK.

A grouper taken at Kangaroo Island, South Australia. I would like to say the lighting was quite deliberate but unfortunately not. The fish was sitting at a cleaning station and allowed me to get very close - since I didn’t know how long he would stay in position, [...]

Floater

DKSURF30_9_0403.jpg, originally uploaded by MattKK.

Another favourite surf shot - Chris showing off his skills with a perfect floater. We spent quite a few hours on a dhoni moored just off a break south of Kuda Hura in North Male. However even with a 400mm and a teleconverter it was hard [...]

Body Surfing

DKSURF02_10_0217.jpg, originally uploaded by MattKK.

One of my favourite images from our ‘Go Surf’ shoot a few years ago in the Maldives. Chris, the surf pro in the shot was amazing to work with - all you had to do was tell him how close you wanted him and in what position and [...]

Farewell the Tree…

Pine.jpg, originally uploaded by MattKK.

Unfortunately, our old pine had to come down today… It has started to show some signs of disease and given how tall it is, the tree has become an accident waiting to happen. Very sad indeed.

ADEX 2008

Unfortunately I won’t be there this year. But Jason Isley, Simon Christopher and Roger Munns will be there for Scubazoo, sharing a stand with Scubacam from Singapore. We’ll have plenty of videos on show, as well as books and prints for sale whilst Scubacam will have a huge range of underwater photography and [...]
