Pulau Tiga

_MAT0069.jpg

I’ve just returned from a few days on Pulau Tiga - one of my favourite islands just south of KK. Its a really peaceful place with beautiful jungle, mud volcanoes, lots of snakes and amazing monitor lizards that go swimming on a regular basis. I made the trip with Simon Enderby, Simon Christopher and Jason Isley to do some topside links for a programme featuring Scubazoo on New Zealand Nat Geo and to do some product shots of new equipment (we’re now sponsored by Pinnacle, Diverite and Seven Tenths). The idea is, we’ll all be wearing the various logos in future productions, as well as in photos for our website etc etc.

Monitor lizard encounter, Sabah

The result? Lots of product shots with the guys as models - enjoy the gallery here! However, the highlight of the trip had to be having a 5 foot monitor lizard using one of the cameras as a floating pontoon. Out of the water these lizards are either very shy or very feisty, making them very difficult to get in nice and close. In the water however, its a different story - they seem to look for anything to rest on and are very happy to let you get very close, as long as you don’t mind if they sit on you for a few minutes…

Its all looking busy for the next few months. Off to Sangalaki and Maratua, down in Kalimantan, next week for 11 days. Then to either the Red Sea or the Maldives beginning of June.
